A stray dog living on the streets of Houston, Texas had all but given up hope and the will to live. He was covered in sores and mange that were so bad, he was initially mistaken for a coyote. His appearance caused potential adoptees to pass up the dog up for weeks, if not months.

But then Caitie appeared on the scene. As soon as the poor dog was in her care, Caitie treated him to an unsalted meat patty. He was “pitiful and scared” at first. But he was more exhausted than anything else. “He probably was so tired because he had had nowhere to sleep,” she commented.

But after a few days of nothing but love, the pup, now called Yukon, started to come out of his shell. He was dressed in pajamas to help protect his sensitive skin and given all the toys he could want but this pup wanted nothing more than to snuggle. He was so grateful to Caitie to have a home and to be shown mercy and love.

Soon, Yukon began to emerge from his shell of abuse to reveal a loving, playful dog. As his fur grew back, Caitie began to wonder what kind of dog he was because he certainly wasn’t a coyote. Curious, Caitie decided to find out what kind of breed Yukon was. She used an Embark Breed Test and learned Yukon was a mix of Siberian Husky, Labrador Retriever, Alaskan Malamute and German Shepherd.

Because of people like Caitie who has fostered 169 dogs and counting, Yukon is ready to find his forever home and what a glorious moment that will be. His future family will have quite the story to tell!
