Son's Alzheimer's Tribute To Dad Set To Kenny Chesney 'While He Still Knows Who I Am'

Son's Alzheimer's Tribute To Dad Set To Kenny Chesney 'While He Still Knows Who I Am'

This emotional video was made by a son as a tribute to his dad who has Alzheimer’s disease. It is set to the song ‘While He Still Knows Who I Am’ by Kenny Chesney, which illustrates the pain and fear people have of not being recognized by their loved ones who suffer from Alzheimer’s.

“I only knew him as my father,
I'm gonna get to know the man
I'm going back to see him
While he still knows
Who I am

This time I'm gonna kiss him
Instead of just shaking hands
Gonna tell him that I love him
While he still knows
Who I am”

In the beginning of the video, the son writes about when this journey with Alzheimer’s started for him and his father.

“In November 2011, my father was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. That day forward, I determined he’d never forget me…or I him.”

As the son is driving back to see his father, he drives over bridges and along country roads, all while singing along to the Kenny Chesney song. There are some emotional shots of him behind the wheel as he is wiping tears from his eyes with the music playing in the background.

The video then shows scenes of him with his mom and dad smiling and spending time together. There are sweet shots of his parents kissing on a bench and him holding hands with his dad while walking along the beach. Priceless memories that the family is sure to cherish forever.

The son remarks on the YouTube page that this video is “a tribute to all who are living with and dealing with Alzheimer's disease.” It’s hard to see families go through this disease, but I’m glad to see that this son was able to make the most of the time he had left with his father.
