'I'd Rather Have Jesus' Steven Curtis Chapman Sings With His Dad

Talented Christian artist Steven Curtis Chapman performs ‘I’d Rather Have Jesus’ with his father. This classic hymn was written in 1922 and the powerful words still ring true today.

“I'd rather have Jesus than silver or gold
I'd rather be his than have riches untold
And I'd rather have Jesus than houses or lands
I'd rather be led by his nail pierced hands”

Today, beloved singer and songwriter Steven Curtis Chapman is joined by his dad for a very special performance of this hymn. Herb Chapman Sr. sings lead vocals on ‘I’d Rather Have Jesus’ which is featured on Steven’s ‘Deeper Roots’ album.

“This song carries so much meaning and emotion for us, and especially for my dad...we sang it together at the funeral for my Grandmother (my dad’s mom). It took us about 8 “takes” in the studio because my dad kept having to stop and let the tears come. Finally we were able to get all the way through it, and what is captured is a priceless treasure to me.” When you listen to this incredible performance, you can feel the love of God wash over you.

“Than to be a king of a vast domain
Or be held in sin's dread sway
And I'd rather have Jesus than anything
This world affords today”

I’m sure this was an incredible moment to sing such a special song with your father. I’m so glad that Steven is sharing this performance with the world, so we can also be reminded of God’s never-ending love.
