When a loved one or relative passes away, there aren’t just a few prayers. There’s an entire service, songs, a processional, a graveside sermon and then a full course spread afterwards. But one of Jeanne’s relatives must hold the record for the longest funeral because it lasted well over 50 years.

It all started in 1953 when her cousin Rudolph Elroy passed away. There was a lot of strife between Rudolph and his mother-in-law. When Rudolph was buried, he was placed in the new part of the cemetery and not with the rest of the family. This started a chain of events that spanned 50 years and 2 more funeral services at different locations.

The punch line all comes to a head in Mississippi with one question from a stranger. I was nearly laughing off of my chair at this zinger. I was born and raised in the South, so I relate to this entire ordeal.
