Anders Drerup's Unique Blind Audition Of 'Can't Help Falling In Love' On The Voice

Anders Drerup from Ottawa, Canada performs a unique rendition of Elvis Presley’s popular song ‘Can’t Help Falling In Love’ during his blind audition on The Voice.

“Wise men say only fools rush in
But I can't help falling in love with you
Oh, shall I stay, would it be a sin
Oh, if I can't help falling in love with you?

Like a river flows, surely to the sea
Darling, so it goes, some things are meant to be

Take my hand, take my whole life too
Oh, for I can't help falling in love with you”

During his performance, Anders adds some island flare to this classic love song. And it clearly impressed Nick Jonas, one of the judges on The Voice, because he turned his chair around for Anders shortly after he started singing.

“Is it always reggae for you or do you mix it up?” Nick asks Anders at the end of his audition.

“No sir, I just played in a ska reggae band back in the day,” shares Anders. “And I figured that would be a good place to start today.”

Ska music is a genre that originated in Jamaica in the late 1950s, and it was the precursor to rocksteady and reggae. Ska combines elements of Caribbean mento and calypso with American jazz and rhythm and blues.

Nick is clearly impressed with the singer’s ability to rearrange a classic song in a totally different way and to have fun with it in the process.

“I think it was a phenomenal place to start,” Nick says. “I can hear in the higher register of your voice too that we’re going to have a lot of fun with the song selection and actually flipping things around.”

Looks like Anders is going to have a great time on Team Nick, and hopefully he will go far with him as a coach on The Voice!
