Miss Kay Wanted To End Her Life Until Son Stepped In

In this emotional video, Miss Kay from Duck Dynasty shares about how she had thought about wanting to end her life until her little boy stepped in. And she talks about how her husband, Phil Robertson, found Jesus and how it changed everything for him and their family.

Back when Miss Kay was 14 years old, her father suddenly passed away. Shortly after that event, she knew that Phil was the one she wanted to spend her life with.

“Phil was at the funeral, and I loved that he cared enough about me to come to my dad’s funeral. From that point, when I saw him that day, it was like we were history. Together ever since,” she shared. “I think, in a lot of ways, he just took my dad’s place as my protector. My man, my pioneer man.”

Then Kay became pregnant and she and Phil went off to get married. “The first year was a real struggle,” she said. And it only got worse when Phil’s behavior started to change.

“I started to see a change in Phil,” said Kay. “Phil, who had never drank before, started drinking.”

The couple had three little boys together, and Kay thought that Phil would slow down his drinking and partying with each baby on the way. But his ways did not change.

“Unfortunately, the drinking got worse. He was mean-spirited, he ran around on me, smoked dope, got drunk,” she said. “What I would tell the boys all the time is ‘That’s not your daddy. That’s the devil in your daddy.’”

Soon, Miss Kay realized that she had been fighting for this marriage for a long time, and it just wasn’t working.

“I went in my bathroom, and I started crying and crying. And I seriously thought, ‘I just wanna die.’ I really did. I just wanted peace and that was the only way I could think of it. I wish that I could just take pills and just go to sleep and never wake up,” she shared.

But then one of her little boys came to her and changed her mind. “I heard the pitter-patter of little house shoes on the floor. I will never forget that sound as long as I live. And Allen said, ‘Mama, mama, please don’t cry. Don’t cry, it’s gonna be alright.’ And his next words were, ‘God is gonna take care of us.’ All of a sudden it was like a light went off and I said, ‘Wait a minute, who’s gonna take care of these three little boys? A drunk sittin’ on the couch or me? I’m all they got.’”

Then Miss Kay turned to God in her darkest moment. “I just got on my knees, and I prayed. I said, ‘God, please help me find some peace. Please help me find some hope. And please help me save my marriage.’ That’s what I said.”

Miss Kay and her boys kept praying for Phil, and he eventually came to know Jesus. Hearing the gospel message changed his entire life for the better and restored his relationship with his wife and sons. Praise God!
