When peace like a river (It is well with my soul)
Many of the hymns that impact upon my life are those that were written from the depths of human experience. Horatio Spafford who wrote this hymn came through two major tragedies in his life - the loss of his real estate fortune in the Chicago fire of 1871 and the loss of his 4 daughters two years later when the ship they were traveling in, sank. Horatio came through all these with faith arising from his heart: 'It is well with my soul'.
