"The Battle of Red and Blue"

Matthew 5:13-16 - Jesus calls his disciples to be the �salt of the earth�.light to the world�a city on a hill.� Many people might be surprised to learn that Jesus was actually telling his followers to be witnesses to his love and grace. In our culture that is divided between �red states� and �blue states,� Jesus words are revolutionary because they call us to a higher moral stand than partisan bickering. Jesus is clear. Our witness to the world is not in how we vote. It is in how we conduct ourselves when the world has settled for bitterness and rancor. In the midst of such a situation, we are called to be the salt of the earth.
