Christmas Greeting

It is Christmas eve morn. I’m surrounded by reminders of that wonderful event. Our Christmas tree is lavishly decorated with pink lights surrounded by a miniature railroad train. When it’s not jumping the tracks, it makes a humming sound and the engine light glows brightly in the dark. On Susan’s Hope Chest is an entire village of miniature “Christmas houses” in a snowy dreamy village she’s collected over the years Our Pellet Stove is burning brightly, and hung behind it are four stockings… one for Susan, another for me, and one for the cat and dog. Do they deserve a stocking? There are Christmas cards in the tree or on the shelf. Hanging on the wall is a sculptured nativity scene. Christmas has always been a major event around our house. I suppose that many people in the world do the same things we do at Christmas… we shop, make presents, wrap them, listen to Christmas carols (My wife sees to that!), watch Christmas specials on TV and have a big Christmas get together, complete with a banquet fit for a king! But in many homes today, Christ will not be a major factor this Christmas. In the UK a recent survey determined that over 70% of those celebrating did not think that Jesus had anything to do with Christmas! Most there think the Christmas story is of the same genre as Greek mythological gods and goddesses. Many don’t even know the details of that story! Here in the US, we’re not too far behind. We’re talking about the greatest news ever - being relegated to “whatever!” status! God became a little child! That’s not trivial.
