Dustin Nickerson’s Honest and Hilarious Take on His Youth Pastor Days

Dustin Nickerson gave an honest and hilarious take on his days as a youth pastor. The funnyman shared that she spent several years working as a youth pastor and learned quite a few things. Watch the short but hysterical clip to hear Dustin talk about being a youth pastor and what he learned about teenagers as a result.

Over the course of one’s working life, odds are they will have had several jobs and positions. The days of someone staying in one job with the same company for 30 and 40 years are long gone. Now, some of those may be related in one way or another, while some people may have worked jobs that don’t seem to be connected in any discernible way.

Regardless of what someone does for a living, they will no doubt gain knowledge and information that will assist them in their next job, whatever that may be. It could be something as transferable and helpful as knowing how to deal with a particular troubling situation or how to best handle an upset, irate customer. There are learning opportunities literally everywhere; it’s just a matter of understanding what was learned and when.

In a clip posted on social media, Dustin says that he actually worked as a youth pastor for nearly a decade. For seven years, he ministered to youngsters. But as he confessed, he was not the greatest youth pastor in the world, and there was one big reason for that.

“I was a youth pastor for seven years, and I was terrible at it ‘cause I don’t like teenagers,” he said. “It was the teenage boys. Like, an eighth-grade boy. You’re like, ‘What is this smell?’ They smell sour. They smell like behind an Applebee’s.”

Not every job is going to be perfect, and it sounds like while Dustin gave it a good shot, he was probably meant to do something else.

Proverbs 22:6 “If a child is trained up in the right way, even when he is old, he will not be turned away from it.”
