Bob Dylan’s “Forever Young” gets a stunning cover on The Voice by a 42-year-old stay-at-home dad with a youthful voice. It’s a wonderful performance. Play the video to see it.

Youth often dominates The Voice stage, but this man, Joe Topping, proves that age has no effect on talent. His voice absolutely stuns the judges, and judge Anne-Marie’s jaw almost hit the floor from the moment he started singing. 

His voice is gentle and lovely—the kind you’d want to hear sing a lullaby. As he sings, his wife and two sons stand proudly by, watching. Two judges slammed their buttons to snag Joe for their team, but judge Olly Murs secured him for his team by blocking judge Sir Tom Jones, much to Tom’s disdain. 

“Your performance was impeccable. I was incredible, honestly, genuinely amazing…I think that you’re great,” Olly told Joe. 

“I love the way you sang,” said Jones. “It was just real. You just came through like you meant it and you know, I loved it.” 

“It was so beautiful,” added Anne-Marie. 

Judge Will.i.am said, “I knew you were playing the guitar because your singing and timing were one. It was immaculate. You have a really, really awesome talent.” 

“It’s honest. The world needs that type of singer-songwriter, playing from the heart, connecting to other people’s hearts,” he continued. “People like Bob Dylan, that craftsmanship, those types of artists, they need to resurface.” 

Joe grew up listening to Irish and American folk songs at his father’s club. His father was also a singer. Joe was always surrounded by traveling musicians and great music, so it’s a no-brainer that he’d also develop some musical skills. 

He’s a wonderful singer and guitarist, and his family should be proud that he made it on The Voice and impressed the judges so well.
