Food is an essential aspect of life. Without it, we’d get sick and would eventually perish. We all need a daily allotment to become and stay healthy. Food literally fuels our bodies and gives us the energy to function and remain active.
However, food is much more than a means of remaining alive. Many people attach memories, feelings and even smells to particular dishes or cooking in the kitchen. Food is often an expression of love. I’m sure you can easily come up with a dish or a meal that has memories associated with it. When you enjoy that bowl or dish, those memories and feelings come flooding back.
In the trailer for the film “Nonnas,” Vince Vaughn's character tries to bring that feeling of love and nostalgia to others. This drives him to open an Italian restaurant where the food is made by Italian grandmothers (Nonnas is Italian for grandmothers).
In the trailer's opening moments, we learn that Vince’s character has recently lost his mother. He was going through his mother’s and his grandmother’s recipes when he suddenly realized that “food is love. " Soon after that epiphany, he came up with the idea to open the restaurant. But he finds out that opening a restaurant is easier said than done.
As the trailer shows, Vince must continually step in and get between his constantly bickering and argumentative elderly chefs. At one point, Vince and his four cooks are waiting outside the restaurant as firefighters hose down the restaurant.
“Nonnas” looks like a film full of laughs and heart. According to IMDB, it’s rated PG for “suggestive material, language and thematic elements.”
The film begins streaming on Netflix on May 9, just in time for Mother’s Day.
