Comedian Recalls His Hilarious First Day at Movie Theater Job
A comedian recalled his hilarious first day at his movie theater job. The popular funnyman, Jonnie W, mentioned that his first job was working at a movie theater, which didn’t start on the right foot. Everybody needs money and to figure out a way to make a living. Unless you are born into a wealthy family, receive a large inheritance or are one of those privileged trust fund kids, you’ll likely be working a 9-to-5. There’s no shame in working. In fact, there is a lot of dignity in working a job, not to mention the sense of accomplishment and self-esteem that comes with it.
However, no one starts as the CEO of a company. Most people gain experience working in fast-food restaurants or similar establishments as teenagers. Those positions help develop and build character, a work ethic and that bank account. In a clip posted on YouTube, Jonnie mentions that his first job was working in a movie theater, but it could have started a little better.
“I was 17 years old, straight out of high school,” he said. “And they’re like, ‘All right.’ They got a clipboard. The guy’s been there six months longer than me at this dumb movie theater job. He’s like, ‘All right, you’re new. So, why don’t you fill up these straw machines? Fill up these napkin machines, and then get a five-gallon bucket of water and meet me up here.’”
Naturally, Jonnie was a little thrown off by the command to get a large bucket full of water.
However, because he was new, he did not question it; instead, he did what he was told.
“I thought I was going to be mopping floors or something,” he said. “I get up there, he goes, ‘You’re new. It’s your turn to fill up the drinking fountains.’”
Jonnie had fallen victim to a little new-guy hazing. He had just fallen victim to a prank. He understands it was a bad first impression when his manager saw him pouring water down an automatic water fountain.
