Live Action ‘How to Train Your Dragon’ Movie Trailer is Bringing All the Feels

The animated film ‘How to Train Your Dragon' came out in theaters in 2010. Children and adults alike loved it. The movie is a fantasy story about a Viking boy who befriends a dragon, defies tradition, and finds his place in the world.

The movie was based on a book series by Cressida Cowell and had two animated sequels: ‘How to Train Your Dragon 2’, which came out in 2014, and ‘How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World’, which came out in 2019. There are also a handful of short films, television series, and even video games based on the movie.

Now, in 2025, as we head into the summer movie season, we can get excited about the new live-action ‘How to Train Your Dragon’, which is coming out June 13th.

The story follows the animated film, taking place on the fictional Isle of Berk, where Vikings and dragons have been enemies for generations. Mason Thames's Hiccup stands apart from the others. He is the son of Chief Stoick the Vast, played by Gerard Butler, who was his voice in the animated films. Hiccup defies tradition when he finds and befriends a dragon, Toothless. Through their friendship, they challenge the foundations of the Viking society.

Directed by Dean DeBlois, the cast also includes Nico Parker, Nick Frost, Julian Dennison, Gabriel Howell, Bronwyn James, Harry Trevaldwyn, Ruth Codd, Peter Serafinowicz, and Murray McArthur.

The ‘How to Train Your Dragon’ trailer shows an enduring live-action version of the beloved film. It’s got heart and feeling and draws you in as Hiccup says, “Everything we know about dragons is wrong.”

Make plans to see the movie in June, and in the meantime, watch the animated films and enjoy Hiccup and Toothless’s inspiring journey.
