Big Daddy Weave was formed in 1998 at the University of Mobile. ‘Have Your Way’ is one of the tracks on their new album, Let It Begin, released on May 23, 2025. The writing and recording of the work came about after a tremendous loss—following the 2022 death of Jay Weaver, Big Daddy Weaver member and the brother of Mike Weaver. 

Mike credits his band members with helping him through a terrible time of grieving. Mike, along with bandmates Jeremy Redmon (guitarist), Joe Shirk (saxophone and keyboards), Brian Beihl (drums), and Raul Alfonso (bass) came together to work on their new record. Mike shared, “I can’t thank them enough. I can’t really put into words how they’ve ministered to me by walking with me and being patient with me.”  

The lyrical video of ‘Have Your Way’ provides five beautiful minutes of pure spiritual encouragement! Let’s break it down. Big Daddy Weave names of Savior in the first few lines. He is wonderful, marvelous, glorious, and powerful. And, He is with us and alive in us. He is the King of Glory!  

Like a spring in our steps, the music picks up a bit at 1:05. BDW sings, asking Jesus to, “Come Have Your Way.” The bridge at 1:40 invites Him to have His way in our hearts. They know that big life-altering changes begin in the heart.

At 2:15, there is a shift because Jesus is having His way. The words describe how His work and movement in our hearts result in huge changes within us—changes that are both felt and seen. Now that’s exciting! The sun shines through purple skies in the video, and the Son shines in broken and damaged hearts!

What does Big Daddy Weave do next? They thank God. They thank Jesus. There’s an invitation, a response, and an abundance of thanks. Big Daddy Weave’s fans echo the words of their song, asking Jesus, in their comments, to have His way in them or thanking Him for doing so.
