One teacher’s kind gift of new shoes brings a respectful student to tears. The young man was completely surprised by the educator’s gift and immediately became emotional. The men and women working in education are in crucial, vital positions. They impact and influence the next generation daily. The knowledge, facts and figures shared in the classroom will only help to serve those children in their future as they enter the workforce. But even more important than any lesson plan is the teacher’s words, attitude and conduct toward their students.

Those children may not remember in what classroom they acquired a specific bit of information, but they will never forget how a teacher treated them and made them feel. That type of impact, impression—positive or negative—will remain with them forever. A clip posted on YouTube captured a teacher rewarding a student and making a positive impact on him that he’s likely to remember for the rest of his life.

The video begins with the young man entering the room. As he does, the woman behind the camera, the teacher, asks him about a recent incident in the classroom. The child’s classmates were acting up, not listening to the teacher and generally being disrespectful.

The teacher asked the young man how he responded to the situation and what his parents taught him that would not allow him to act like his classmates did.

“My parents taught me to respect people,” the young man says.

So, since the young man listened to his parents and demonstrated respect when others did not, the teacher wanted to reward him. She surprised him with a brand-new pair of shoes.

But before opening the bag and the box, the young man continually says, “Thank you.” He is grateful for the gift, even though he does not know what it is yet. Once he reveals the shoes, he begins crying, unable to believe the kindness and generosity his teacher had shown him.
