Comedian’s Side-Splitting Experiences from Basic Training

A comedian recalled his side-splitting experiences from basic training. The funnyman, Mike Goodwin, shared some of the hysterical things he experienced and encountered while enduring basic training in the Army. Watch the short but hilarious clip to hear what Mike came up against during basic training and how he responded.

Veterans are heroes who all deserve our respect and gratitude. Those drafted or who voluntarily signed up for military service put their lives on the line for the freedoms we experience in this country.  Because of those men and women sacrificing their time, talent and, in some cases, even lives, we are free, for the most part, to do what we please in this country.

However, massive organizations such as the U.S. military are bound to be stuck in their ways, doing things simply because “that’s just how it’s always been done.” They have been doing something for so long that those in charge and people under their command do not even question their methods and ways of carrying out and completing a task.

In a clip posted on YouTube, Mike said basic training was the hardest thing he’s ever had to do, mainly because of the Army’s odd phrasing for simple, everyday tasks, and because he’s a smart aleck by nature.

“And the problem with the Army, especially, they would tell you to do stuff that you didn’t know what it meant,” Mike said. “Like, they wouldn’t say, ‘Hey, man, do some pushups.’ They didn’t tell you to do that. No, they’d tell you stuff like, ‘Beat your face.’”

Later in the clip, Mike says that the Army also had a strange name for jumping jacks, calling them “the side straddle hop.” He added that the Army seemed to have an issue when it came to counting, claiming that two jumping jacks were actually only one when exercising.

Job 8:21 “The time will come when your mouth will be full of laughing, and cries of joy will come from your lips.”
