To be completely truthful, they are likely some combination of all three. That’s because, as anyone who has been alive for any significant amount of time knows well, life isn't, if ever, fair.

In fact, this experience we call life can be highly unfair and agonizingly painful. Horrible, heartbreaking situations can and do come about through no fault of our own. They can leave us feeling as if no one cares about us or our well-being, like we are being thrown out to fend for ourselves, even when we are hurting and struggling. But of course, that is not the case at all. The Bible reminds us that God cares and knows us so well that He even knows the number of hairs on our heads.
