Incredible Rendition of Otis Redding’s ‘Sittin’ on the Dock of the Bay’

This young woman turned in an incredible rendition of Otis Redding’s classic “Sittin’ on the Dock of the Bay.” This cover is spectacular and one that you’ll want to watch and listen to multiple times. Watch the short clip to see and hear the dazzling performance of the tune that is near and dear to the hearts of many.

Classics are classics for a reason. Some songs should not be reimagined. Covering them how they were initially written, recorded and performed is fine, but deviating in any way should not be permitted. Of course, the problem is that doing so will only cause problems and diminish the original. How can you improve on perfection?

Everyone can name songs they believe should be left alone. Likely, there are a handful that immediately come to mind. Songs from The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Elvis Presley and The Eagles fit into this exclusive category for many people. Any cover will only fall way short of the original. But what if it doesn’t?

Otis Redding’s “Sittin’ on the Dock of the Bay” is a beloved classic. It’s such a simple song, but it is still so beautiful. It’s easily one of the greatest songs of all time. In a clip posted on YouTube, one young woman, Mary Spender, covers the Otis Redding tune, and it is marvelous.

What makes this such a great cover is likely that she doesn’t attempt to change much from the original. Instead of trying to make the tune something else and completely unrecognizable, she sings those memorable and iconic lyrics using her beautiful voice. She lets her talent shine in this cover performance.

“I’m sittin’ on the dock of the bay
Watching the tide roll away
I’m just sittin’ on the dock of the bay
Wastin’ time”

They may be simple lyrics, but they get stuck in your head whenever you hear them.

Ephesians 5:19 “Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;”
