Harvey Korman Delivers Laughs as Death Row Inmate Desperate to Get Away From His Wife
Harvey Korman delivered plenty of laughs as a death row inmate who is desperate to get away from his wife in another classic sketch from The Carol Burnett Show.
Prison is not somewhere anyone ever wants to be at any point. The mere thought of possibly ending up in such a horrible, awful and confined place is enough to deter most people from committing unlawful acts.
However, for some, the possibility of being locked up in prison does nothing to stop them from perpetrating crimes. In that case, after a trial, verdict from the jury and the sentence from the judge, they often land in prison. The worst of the worst criminal offenders will end up on death row, where they await execution.
In a hilarious clip posted on YouTube, Harvey Korman plays a man on death row. He is only a few short hours from execution and meeting his Maker. He desperately pleads with the warden to reach out to the governor for a possible pardon. He is understandably scared of dying.
But Harvey's feelings quickly change when his wife, played by Carol Burnett, shows up for a last-minute visit. Carol enters Harvey's cell and, in a nasally, high-pitched and grating voice, has a series of questions, critiques and complaints for her soon-to-be executed husband.
She wants to know how long she should wait after her husband is dead to start dating again. She also would like to know if room service could bring her an aspirin for a headache.
Carol then continues critiquing and nagging anything and everything about Harvey. If he does something, it is wrong in Carol's eyes, and she will surely tell him about it.
This skit features two of the funniest people to have ever appeared on television. Amazingly, Harvey and Carol made it through that sketch without breaking. Most people would not have lasted more than a couple of seconds, especially because of Carol's loud, annoying and extremely off-putting voice.
Job 8:21 "The time will come when your mouth will be full of laughing, and cries of joy will come from your lips."
