Grandmother Completes Incredible 30-Mile Swim
A grandmother has done something astounding by completing an incredible 30-mile swim.
Human beings are capable of doing some truly amazing, mind-blowing things. God has blessed individuals with a variety of gifts, talents and skills. Those God-given abilities can and do allow people to achieve remarkable things in a number of fields and areas of interest.
One area that likely comes to mind where phenomenal and unbelievable things are done regularly is athletics. Athletes consistently and constantly move and contort their bodies. These individuals push themselves to their physical and mental limits through sheer determination and will.
Amy Gubser, a 56-year-old grandmother, recently pushed herself mentally and physically to complete an eye-popping 30-mile swim off the coast of San Francisco. Amy swam west from San Francisco to the Farallon Islands, a distance of 29.7 miles.
However, the video points out that the distance was not the only factor making this an incredible physical feat. Those waters are known for being home to many creatures, including deadly Great White Sharks.
Amy, a former college swimmer and current pediatric nurse, jumped into the frigid waters around 3 a.m. in mid-May. She completed the 30-mile swim about 17 hours after she jumped into the ocean.
While trying to complete such an outstanding physical feat, Amy had several thoughts in her head the whole time.
“I can do hard things. That’s what I said over and over in my head,” she said. “And the other mantra was: The only thing that I can control is my response. Those were the two that got me across that channel.”
To make her achievement even more outstanding, Amy jumped into the water to begin the 30-mile swim after working an entire shift at her nursing job, followed by a quick nap at home.
We’ve all been blessed with unique talents and abilities. While we might not be able to complete a 30-mile swim, we can do so much more than we think. We might even surprise ourselves with what we can do.
James 1:17 “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom is no fickleness, neither shadow of turning.”

A Prayer to Stay on the Path of Righteousness - Your Daily Prayer - October 5
Staying on the path of righteousness takes work; many distractions and hindrances exist. But, each day, we have a choice: will we choose God and His ways, which are better than ours (Isaiah 55:8-9), or the way of the world that leads to destruction (Matthew 7:13-14)?
