Most people have a lifelong goal of retirement. No matter how much someone loves their job and coworkers, not many want to work until their last breath. There is so much more to life—to do and see—than working. You’ll finally get to travel, visit the grandkids more often and get to that project around the house you’ve been putting off for years.

But what happens when retirement leaves you unfulfilled, causing you to look for ways to fill your time? That’s precisely what has happened to Charles (played by Ted Danson) in the new series A Man on the Inside.

According to the show’s trailer, Charles’ wife has recently passed, and he’s become stuck in a routine. He wants something to do, a new challenge. So, he naturally looks for a new opportunity, something that excites him. He turns to the want ads and becomes an investigative assistant.

Soon enough, Charles is sent into a retirement community searching for a priceless necklace that has gone missing. As the show’s title indicates, Charles becomes “a man on the inside.” But what he finds and learns is somewhat surprising.

He quickly becomes acquainted with the community’s many zany residents. Through a series of hilarious and sweet interactions, Charles learns that life doesn’t end after retirement and that everyone, regardless of age, is searching for meaning and purpose.

Near the end of the clip, Charles states that he may not be a good spy, but the job is still good for him because “it makes me feel useful.”
