Quick-Thinking Diner Owner Saves Choking Man And It's All Caught On Camera
Has your life ever been in jeopardy because you bit off more than you could chew? One man is alive today because a quick-thinking diner owner saves a choking man and it’s all caught on camera!
The dramatic rescue unfolds at a popular restaurant called, the Empire Diner. Joe Moore loves eating at the diner and he typically orders his favorite meal, chicken parmesan. He was enjoying his favorite comfort food when he bit off more than he could chew—literally.
From the dramatic footage, it’s obvious that Joe is choking but other patrons in the restaurant are either oblivious to his need for help or they entirely ignore Joe altogether. For several seconds, Joe is unable to breathe or call for help until the owner Dervis Akturk realizes what is happening.
Dervis jumps into action and the only thing he is thinking about is getting Joe’s airway open. Thankfully, God had prepared Dervis for this moment years ago when Dervis decided to learn how to properly perform the Heimlich maneuver, which he learned as a hospitality major in college.
Dervis thanks God for being in the right place at the right time, “All I wanted to do was save his life. That's all I wanted to do. Thank God I was at the right place at the right time,” he said. He recalled his training and knew exactly what to do. After a few thrusts, the first piece of food flies out. It’s clear Joe’s airway is still blocked as Dervis continues to perform the Heimlich maneuver while patrons continue to eat their food. Yet, some stop to watch. After a few more agonizing seconds, the second piece of food is dislodged and Joe is finally able to breathe.
This dramatic rescue proves God can use our training and desire to help others even if he prepares us years in advance. A couple of decades had flown by before Dervis saved a life. It’s just incredible how God positions us in the right place at the right time!
“For I, the Lord your God, hold your right hand; it is I who say to you, “Fear not, I am the one who helps you.” Isaiah 41:13
