Authorities Warn Drivers As ‘Slider’ Crimes Rise Across The Nation
Law enforcement officials are imploring drivers across the country to exercise caution and stay aware as “slider” crimes are on the rise.
Unfortunately, crime and violence are parts of our fallen, sin-filled world. Turn on any local television news broadcast, and you’ll quickly find this to be true. The first handful of stories is bound to be about the latest deadly shooting, fatal stabbing or theft.
In a video posted on YouTube, authorities are advising drivers to be on the lookout because what they describe as “slider” crimes are increasing in several major cities in the United States. The video states that slider crimes are when a thief, looking for a quick score, sneaks into an unlocked vehicle to obtain valuables.
The video points out that the criminals attempting these types of crimes are particularly bold. That’s because slider crimes typically happen when the victim is outside the car, like filling up their vehicle at a gas station.
The short, minute-and-a-half clip shows surveillance footage of an attempted slider crime. A silver vehicle is spotted pulling up and then stopping behind a parked car. Seconds later, a man exits the car, crouches down and makes his way to the passenger’s side of another car, opening the door of that vehicle.
The would-be thief enters the car, where a struggle over a woman’s purse ensues. During the frightening incident, the woman lets out a terrifying scream and avoids having her purse stolen. The man quickly dashes off empty-handed.
The woman in the video states that she cannot watch the clip with sound because, as she puts it, “you can just hear the terror” in her voice.
The woman’s terrifying incident is a reminder to be aware of your surroundings when parking and to lock your vehicle when it’s left unattended.
Ephesians 6:11 “Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.”
