Jenna Bush Hager Shares Hilarious Story About Getting in Trouble with Dad George W. Bush

Jenna Bush Hager shares a hilarious story about getting in trouble with dad George W. Bush on the Today show. The whole time she’s telling it, her co-star, Shenielle Jones, is chuckling. Watch the video to hear the funny story about the daughter of a former president. 

Jenna Bush Hager’s hilarious story is from a time she was heckling her opponents on the tennis court with her grandparents watching. And she wasn’t a pubescent teen at the time; she was a full-grown woman with children. 

“I was doing the worm and yelling, ‘Not today!’” Jenna told Sheinelle. “My dad thought it was very funny and he’d be like, ‘That’s my girl!’”

However, her grandmother, Barbara Bush, did not think it was funny, so she wrote a letter to George and Jenna telling them so. 

She told them the behavior was very unbecoming, and she did not like George encouraging Jenna’s actions. However, when Jenna called her dad to talk to him about it, he told her to ignore it and throw the letter away because she was just having fun. 

In the letter’s post-script, her grandmother told them to not speak of the letter. However, she’s since passed away, and Jenna doesn’t have an issue telling the world now. And it’s a good thing, too, because it’s a pretty amusing story.

Another time, Jenna got into real trouble with her dad when she and her twin, Barbara, used fake IDs to get alcohol. She was 19 at the time. 

"When I called my dad to say, 'I'm really sorry' ... he said, 'No, I'm sorry.' We did embarrass (our parents), but they never would say that," Jenna said. "He said, 'I'm sorry, I told you (that) you can be normal, and you can't. You can't order margaritas.'"

He didn’t really reprimand them, but he let them learn from their own mistakes, and now, Jenna is grateful for it. Hopefully, Jenna Bush Hager will share more hilarious stories like the one about her grandma on more Today episodes to come.
