Of course, given the circumstances, funerals are rarely, if ever, a joyous occasion. People are hurting and mourning, trying to come to terms with the fact that they have just lost a family member or a dearly beloved friend. Funerals have become such a part of life that people have developed sayings and clichés used at funerals. What else are you supposed to say? Often, words are little comfort to someone who is in pain over their recent loss.

Laughter is typically not associated with funerals, that is for sure.
