Director Rick Altizer Shares Inspiration Behind and Reason for Film ‘He Calls Me Daughter’

Director Rick Altizer revealed the inspiration and purpose behind his new film, “He Calls Me Daughter,” in a discussion with GodTube’s Janna Bailey. He shares how God’s hand guided the film’s creation and continues to expand its reach. Watch this short, insightful interview for more on “He Calls Me Daughter.”

No one is perfect, not even one. As such, human beings are an imperfect, fallen group. We all have our own unique failures, flaws and blemishes, all of which are simply part of being a human. Those are all inescapable facts and characteristics of being a human being on this earth.

Unfortunately, another part of being human is experiencing hurt, being knocked down and suffering bruises and scars. Now, while hurt can be obviously physical, it is often the emotional and spiritual wounds that leave the biggest and deepest scars and cause the most damage. But how do we heal from deep hurt and trauma from our past? How do we confront, heal from and move beyond those hurts? That is just one of the ideas, factors that drove Rick to create “He Calls Me Daughter.”

Rick admits that while he felt a draw and push to make the film, he was also initially hesitant. He asked himself how he, as a man, was qualified to make a film for women, helping them recognize and begin to heal from the father wounds and hurts in their lives. He added that despite his hesitancy and momentary uneasiness, he felt God’s guidance and direction.

“God had given me some clear direction,” Rick said. “God clearly guides us in His word, you know? He gives us everything we need in His word. God kind of got my attention and said, ‘I want you to make this film for women.’ And I was hesitant about it. I didn’t, you know, I’m a dude. I don’t know if that would, you know? And he said, ‘No, I’ve given you everything you need. Go do it.’”

While Rick is an experienced filmmaker, he admits that in his career he has never seen God open so many doors and create so many opportunities as he did while making “He Calls Me Daughter.”

“I’ve never been a part of anything, first off, that had God’s hand on it like this,” he said. “As I watched the film, I’m an OK filmmaker, but I did not do this. I did not make this. This was beyond me, and Tracy, our editor. It was just beyond us. God did things. I could talk for an hour of what God did to make this film the way it is. I mean, it was just amazing. His hand was all over it.”
