Brandon Lake and Nick Jonas Discuss Their Song 'The Author'

Brandon Lake and Nick Jonas discussed their song, “The Author.” Two of the biggest names in music, who combined their considerable musical talents for the powerful, moving tune, shared what the song means to them and how people have reacted to it. Watch the short but insightful clip to hear what Brandon and Nick had to say about “The Author.”

Musicians are a special group of people. They have been blessed with a talent, a gift for creating beautiful and ear-pleasing sounds. Of course, musical talent benefits all of us in one way or another. I mean, who doesn’t enjoy music, right? Not appreciating music would be similar to not having a preference or even a liking for food.

When it comes to creating music, musicians will often come together to make something even greater and more powerful than they could on their own. Look at all the memorable bands throughout history that have created timeless, iconic tracks that you still listen to repeatedly. Not only that, but think about some of your favorite duet performances. Those, no matter how many times you hear them, will get tired or old.

Brandon and Nick, musicians at the top of their game, have a song together. “The Author” is a powerful song about recognizing one’s failures, limitations and sins, and finally turning to the ever-faithful God and His love, mercy and grace. In a clip posted on YouTube, Brandon and Nick sat down to discuss what the song means to them, how they relate to those lyrics, and how they are so relevant.

“I’ve literally said that line to myself because I’m, like, ‘I don’t know if I can do this,’” Brandon said. “But who am I to question the pen in the hand of the Author? He asked me to do it. He called me to do it.”

“I love that lyric and the bridge in the song,” Nick added. “One of my favorite lyrics is ‘I’ve seen panic turn to power. Felt Your peace in my darkest hour. What grace is this? Call me by name again and again and again.’ And I was, like, one of my favorite things I’ve ever been a part of writing, that little piece of music.”

Colossians 3:16 “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.”
