John Crist Hilariously Explains Why This Cliché Is All Wrong
John Crist hilariously explained why this cliché is all wrong. The popular comedian has a very different take and outlook on this commonly used phrase. Watch the short but hysterical clip to hear what cliché John believes is entirely incorrect, and what he thinks is true instead.
When communicating with one another, people use a variety of things to help get their point across. They might use metaphors, similes and even the occasional joke or two. Sometimes these rhetorical devices work, and other times, they don’t work as well. That success or failure depends heavily on the audience and whether they grasp the message being conveyed.
Now, something else people may use when speaking with one another are clichés. We are all familiar with these often-said phrases, and if asked, could likely easily rattle off an entire list of them. Generally, a saying becomes a cliché because there is some truth to it, or at least that is what one would think, anyway. But I’m sure there are plenty of clichés you could point to that aren't accurate at all.
In a clip posted on YouTube, John named a cliché that he knows is not true. In fact, he believes the opposite of this saying is the correct way to look at the situation. The cliché in question, he confesses, was one that his mother would say to him while he was trying to make a name for himself in the world of comedy.
“My mom, when I was coming up in comedy, she goes, ‘John, comparison is the thief of joy,’” he said. “Yeah, comparing yourself to people that are better than you. Compare yourself to worse people. It’s the source of joy.”
Later in the clip, he adds that those who might have a weight issue shouldn’t look to those who are frequenting the gym. Instead, they should do this.
“If you’re a little bit chubby, like, don’t go to the gym,” he added. “Go to Golden Corral. You’ll feel way better.”
Job 8:21 “The time will come when your mouth will be full of laughing, and cries of joy will come from your lips.”
