All of the songs on this album are a collection of reimagined hymns focusing on the story of Christ’s resurrection.

As for the background of ‘How Great Thou Art,’ the journey of how the song came to be is quite interesting. The hymn originated in Sweden in 1886, long before it reached the United States.

Author and editor Carl Boberg originally wrote ‘How Great Thou Art’ as a poem. Later, those words were set to a Swedish folk tune. Then in 1907, Manfred von Glehn translated it into German, and five years later, a Russian pastor named Ivan Prokhanov created a Russian adaptation.

Then, in the early 1920s, Rev. and Mrs. Stuart Hine left their home in England and went to Poland as missionaries. That’s when they heard the Russian adaptation of ‘How Great Thou Art.’ Reverend Hine decided to write the English lyrics and make his own arrangement of the Swedish melody. After many iterations, we have the beloved ‘How Great Thou Art’ hymn we know today.

We hope you enjoyed listening to this wonderful rendition from Tommee Profitt and Aubree Archibeck of “How Great Thou Art” today!
