Moonrise Country Singer Granger Smith Stars In Faith-Based Film About Life After Loss

Available for streaming on December 15, Moonrise stars country music singer Granger Smith in this faith-based film about life after loss, and it looks like one to watch!

Moonrise introduces viewers to Ellie, a feisty young girl who is determined to ride a stunning white horse named Belle. Still, Belle is evidently “a couple of beans shy of a good chili,” according to a cute kid confidante who advises Ellie not to.

While riding Belle is what Ellie wishes for at Christmas, that’s only part of the story that we see highlighted in this 2-minute trailer. The real challenge depicted in the movie is the one faced by Granger Smith’s character, Will Brown. Will is Ellie’s dad and a former country singer stuck in grief after losing his wife, Claire, two years earlier.

We meet Sam Lin here, too. She’s the horse trainer from Houston that Miss Ellie has called for help—without permission from her father. With the help of friends and family, a pretty horse trainer, and his faith, Will needs to find the strength to move past loss and back into life!

In addition to the fact that Granger Smith plays a country singer and is an actual country singer, there are other similarities between the life of the singer-songwriter, radio host, and now actor and the character he plays in his acting debut.

Granger is married in real-life to a beautiful blond, just like the wife we get glimpses of in the movie trailer. He and Amber Bartlett Smith have three beautiful kids and live on a farm outside  Austin, Texas. Along with his brothers, Granger owns a clothing company called Yee Yee. And, he and Amber host a YouTube show named The Smiths. They are a busy family!

They are also a family who has faced loss—like the family in Moonrise. Granger and wife, Amber, have spoken publicly about the tragic loss of their 3-year-old son, River Kelly, in a drowning accident in 2019.

Moonrise promises dances, father-daughter feuds, funny kids, wise senior citizens, magical views, romance, faith, and healing! Getting back on the horse is the metaphor outlined in this movie about moving forward after life stops us in our tracks!

“But you, God, see the trouble of the afflicted; you consider their grief and take it in hand. The victims commit themselves to you; you are the helper of the fatherless.” Psalms 10:14
