Singer Anica Overcomes Adversity to Earn Golden Buzzer

One gifted musician gave an inspirational and Golden Buzzer-winning performance on Canada’s Got Talent

Trials and struggles are, unfortunately, a part of life. Everyone will come up against hurdles and obstacles in their way. However, some people face and deal with more than their fair share of adversity and heartaches.

One woman, Anica, had a terribly troubling and painful childhood. As she details before her performance, she is a survivor of “horrible abuse.” Growing up, Anica said she spent time in nine different foster homes. But in her ninth and final foster home, she received a life-changing gift. She was given a guitar.

“Music helped me make sense of everything I’ve been through,” Anica said. “It literally gave me a voice.”

Anica later added that music is something she’s relied upon in life, almost as a therapy and healing mechanism.

“It's never given up on me,” she said. “It's never made me feel bad. It's always been there to protect me and give me comfort.”

Anica, once on the stage, exchanged pleasantries with the audience and got right into her performance, singing and playing the guitar to Sia’s “Unstoppable.”

From the beginning, Anica takes the song and makes it her own. She uses her unique, distinct and Janis Joplin-sounding voice to sing the lyrics about perseverance. The lyrics are a perfect fit for everything that Anica has endured in life.

Anica’s mesmerizing performance had the studio audience and the judges on their feet applauding. Her performance also struck a chord with the show’s host, Lindsay, who states she is also a survivor of a difficult childhood.

“You are such an inspiration for everybody in this room, for all of the millions of people watching,” she said. “Thank you for being you and thank you for channeling your beautiful heart into your music.”

Lindsay proceeded to slam the Golden Buzzer, causing gold confetti to fall from the ceiling. Anica was overwhelmed by all the love, support and praise of her stunning performance.

John 1:5 “And the light goes on shining in the dark; it is not overcome by the dark.”
