'When He Was On the Cross' Classic Sue Dodge Worship Performance

Get your heart and soul ready for Easter with this classic clip of ‘When He Was On The Cross’ Sue Dodge worship performance. Sue Dodge is a Gospel award-winning vocalist with Four Dove awards for “Best Female Vocalist,” and she has been in ministry for more than 54 years. Her platform is the stage and God is her focus.

Sue began singing at the tender age of 13 before starting her career in worship at the age of 19. Several years later she joined one of the best-loved Gospel groups of all time, The Speer Family. During her time with The Speer Family, she met and married the love of her life, youth Pastor Amos Dodge.

Sue is best known for her heart of service, a genuine relationship with Jesus, and her love for helping others. These three characteristics on top of her ministry of worship, have become her legacy for those she ministers to and her family.

In this soul-touching performance, she begins with a grateful rich voice singing, “I'm not on an ego trip, I'm nothing on my own. I've made mistakes and often slipped. I'm just common flesh and bone. But I'll prove someday just why I say I'm of a special kind. For when he was on the cross, I was on his mind.”

She reminds us quickly we are mere vessels for the Lord, and we are but flesh and bone. Yet, despite our meager existence, you and I both were on Jesus Christ’s mind as he hung on the cross. She then sings the powerful chorus line, “A look of love was on his face, the thorns upon his head. The blood ran down that sacred face. Its stain was crimson red. But his eyes were on the crowd that day, Jesus looked ahead in time. For when he was on the cross, you and I were on his mind.”

The lyrics are precious, humbling, and a reminder of what Christ did for you and me. May this worship song be a powerful reminder of your mighty savior. Thank you, Sue, for performing a song that invites us into a moment of gratitude and praise for our beloved savior Jesus Christ.

“But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him,” Romans 5:8-10
