9/11...Unfinished Song
I was inspired to write this song all because of a little girl named Taylor. I was working as a fourth grade teacher in Winston-Salem, North Carolina on September 11, 2001. When the news hit, parents came to pick their children up from school. Within a few hours, most of the kids were gone. Taylor, still at school then told me, "My dad works in New York, near the World Trade Center." I consoled her as best I could, but I recall the fear in her eyes. The next day, her fear turned to tears. "Mr. Hicks," she said, "my daddy won't answer his phone...where is my daddy?" This little girl sobbed in my arms and I had no more words to console her. I told her I would pray and that her daddy would soon be found. ( In my heart, I had a bad feeling...)
