Audrey Assad - Sparrow

This is a modernized version of the old hymn "His Eye Is On The Sparrow", by Audrey Assad, from her album "Heart". I often don't care for modernization of old hymns (I'm 59 years old, raised a Southern Baptist, sort of old-fashioned). My feeling is usually "it was fine the way it was, don't tinker with it". Well, in this case I'm glad that Audrey did tinker with it, it's a very refreshing rendition. "His Eye Is On The Sparrow" was one of my mom's favorite hymns, so this song brings back a lot of memories.

The lyrics are a paraphrase of the original hymn written by Civilla D. Martin, but the melody is entirely different than the original one composed by Charles H. Gabriel. Here's the interesting story about the origin of this song, in the words of the author Civilla Martin:
