Dance has to be the most difficult of all art forms. Someone could possibly make a case for painting, filmmaking or even being a musician, but I will forever say that title belongs to dance. To do dance correctly requires years of intense, focused practice, and even then, after all that effort, someone may still only be a passable dancer. That’s without even considering all of the hundreds of different forms of dance that exist.

America’s Got Talent gets a lot of dancers who audition. Typically, though, when it comes to dancers, it’s large, massive dance troupes who effortlessly pull off beautiful, enchanting routines. It’s rare that single dancers come on the show, and if they do, they don’t usually make it past the audition phase, and that’s because they often do something that the judges have seen hundreds of times before and performed better.

However, the judges, the studio audience and everyone watching at home have never seen a dance routine like this. Patrox, a nervous young man from Germany, walked out onto the stage and said that he had been dancing for about 20 years, and claimed that he did something that “you’ve never seen before.”  It turned out he was right!

As the music started, he began performing, executing a series of odd, unexpected moves. It was clear that the audience and the judges were a bit confused as to what was happening. What was he doing? But then what he had just done was played backward, along with the music. He had actually done his routine in reverse!

The amount of time, work and attention to detail that would have gone into that routine is routine.
