“Give Me That Old Time Religion” was published in 1873 and penned by Charles Davis Tillman. He had actually heard the song sung by former slaves in South Carolina and wrote it down. It became widespread after it appeared in the movie "Sergeant York" in 1941. The song speaks of wanting to return to the old-fashioned faith of the Bible. Religions all over the world have changed a lot, but the “Old Time Religion” is what many believers crave. 

It’s a wonderful piece of Southern Gospel history, and we’re glad people like the Brandenberger family still sing it at their gatherings today.
