You’ll Laugh at Nate Bargatze’s Confession About Not Getting Jokes Right Away

You will find yourself laughing at Nate Bargatze’s confession about not getting some jokes right away. The popular funnyman is typically quick-witted, sharp and good for a hysterical response that will have audiences doubled over with laughter, but that was not always the case. Watch the short but hilarious clip to hear how it takes Nate time to get some jokes.

Stand-up comedy has to be one of the hardest things to do, as far as performing in public goes. Comedians spend hours and hours writing and rehearsing their material, preparing to perform it for an audience when they eventually take the stage. Once they take the stage, anything can happen.

Even though they may have spent all this time practicing, things can go south quickly. A joke may not hit as they thought, or they may stumble over a word here and there, and that could completely throw off their timing. However, even when such incidents occur, the best and most experienced comedians are usually quick-witted enough to overcome those failures by shooting back with a joke right on the spot. That has to be something they seemingly develop over time.

In a clip posted on YouTube, Nate shares how he wasn’t always as quick with jokes. As he mentioned, one joke even took him decades to fully grasp and understand.

Nate explained that while working at an amusement park, he encountered a couple who told him their names. They both had unusual, yet very recognizable names. Nate admits that he did not think much of it at the time.

“I was working,” he said. “Sitting, eating lunch, and this couple sits down, and we start talking. I’m like, ‘I’m Nate.’ The guy’s, like, I’m John. This is my wife, Jane.’ And they were, their last name was Doe. So, it was John and Jane Doe.”

Later in the video, Nate finally realized that those may not have been their real names.

“But to earlier this year, I’m 35,” he added. “I’m driving, and I’m thinking about John and Jane Doe. You know, I was like, ‘I bet they were lying to me about that.’ That’s how long it took – 20 years – for me to catch on to a joke they wouldn’t remember saying.”

Job 8:21 “The time will come when your mouth will be full of laughing, and cries of joy will come from your lips.”
