This husband-and-wife team hilariously imagines how Trader Joe’s came to be. The married couple shared what they believe were some of the initial thoughts and considerations that went into developing the concept for the popular retailer. Watch the short but hysterical clip to hear and see what this couple thinks the founders of Trader Joe’s envisioned when creating their stores.

Opening and operating a business is always a risky move. The sad reality is most businesses fail rather quickly. How many restaurants or small shops have you noticed one week and then spotted that they had gone out of business shortly after? Likely, it’s way too many to count.  

Because opening a business is so expensive and risky, with a high likelihood of failure, it’s a good idea to have a fail-proof business plan. What will the business sell? For how much? Where and when? How many people should the business hire? What does the forecast for business look like six months down the road? What about a year? All those questions and many, many more need to be adequately answered with great detail before deciding to open a business.

In a clip posted on YouTube, a husband and wife teamed up to share what they believe might have been some of what the founders of Trader Joe’s were thinking. What did they want to sell? Where did they want their locations? How did they want people to park, or at least attempt to park, while shopping in their stores? Those are just a few of the questions they answer.

“We should put them in already really congested areas!” the wife says.

“Perfect!” the husband answers with more than a little feigned enthusiasm.

“And make the parking lots really small,” she adds.

“Better yet, let’s find a way to put them on a hill,” the husband mentions as they build off each other’s ideas.

Later in the clip, they list some of the unusual items they plan to sell and also mention that they will have no intention of restocking them once they sell out.

Finally, before the clip ends, the two share how they came up with this concept for their hilarious video.
