Jim Croce Flawless ‘You Don’t Mess with Jim’ Performance

Jim Croce turned in a flawless “You Don’t Mess Around with Jim” performance. This dazzling, immensely enjoyable clip of the late singer-songwriter performing arguably his most iconic, memorable tune is one you’ll find yourself returning to over and over again. Watch the short but delightful video to see and listen to Jim perform “You Don’t Mess Around with Jim.”

Songwriting is an undervalued and underestimated talent. When it comes to the musical arts, everyone wants to be on stage belting out lyrics, shredding on the guitar or banging around on the drums. And those desires and aspirations are all well and good, but if the lyrics and notes weren’t first written down, there would be nothing for anyone else to do.

It all starts with the songwriters, and within the last couple of decades, there have likely been no more recognizable and iconic singer-songwriters than Bob Dylan, John Denver and Jim Croce. All three have a way with words, effortlessly painting vivid pictures and telling memorable stories through their iconic lyrics. Many of their tunes have gone on to become classics, including “You Don’t Mess Around with Jim.”

In a clip posted on YouTube, Jim, with his unmistakable voice, performed his most beloved tune. It’s such an enjoyable performance, featuring such talent and artistry. If you’re not singing along and tapping your toe along within minutes after he starts singing and strumming on the guitar, there might be something seriously wrong with you.

In addition to his distinctive voice, another reason “You Don’t Mess Around with Jim” is such a classic is its unique, catchy chorus. You just don’t hear those kinds of lyrics in many songs.

“You don’t tug on Superman’s cape
You don’t spit into the wind
You don’t pull the mask off that Lone Ranger
And you don’t mess around with Jim”

Even if you’re not a Jim Croce fan or, for some reason, you don’t enjoy this song, you still have to appreciate the talent.

Colossians 3:16 “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.”
