Tim Hawkins Delivers a Hysterical Roast of John Crist
Tim Hawkins delivered a hysterical roast of John Crist. The popular comedian came at his fellow comedian, giving him what first sounded like a compliment, but it was very much a backhanded one. Watch the short but hysterical clip to listen to Tim sarcastically compliment John’s stand-up routine.
Everyone loves receiving compliments. Even the shiest, most backward and modest person, who does not enjoy the spotlight at all, will still enjoy hearing kind words about themselves. That has to be much better than the alternative, right? There isn’t anyone alive who relishes and seeks out criticism. Who in their right mind would want their superior to yell at them and make them aware of how awful a job they are doing?
But what happens when a compliment appears to be a one at first, but quickly turns out to be criticism? Despite their confusing tone, friendly demeanor and what they say, a backhanded compliment isn’t appreciated much either. How do you react to one? Odds are that it’s a lot like being outright criticized. We’d rather not hear them, am I right? Of course, I’m right.
In a hysterical clip posted on YouTube, Tim appeared on John’s podcast “Net Positive with John Crist” and gave him a good-natured ribbing. Tim started out by giving his fellow comedian what sounded like a compliment, but it slowly turned into a backhanded one, in which he said John’s stand-up routine, while not funny, is still powerful and meaningful to him.
“You’ve taken it, I think, to a different level, too,” he said. “Talking about struggles. It don’t even have to have a punchline.”
He later added, sarcastically, how John’s act, while not all that funny in his opinion, made him consider and think about things in his life.
“John, most of your act had me thinking,” Tim said. “I mean, I was..John, even though there’s no payoff in your act, the payoff for me was I felt like a better person.”
Of course, Tim is not being serious at all with his statements.
Proverbs 27:2 “Let another man give you praise, and not your mouth; one who is strange to you, and not your lips.”
