A comedian gave his hysterical reason for why he misses the America of the past. He particularly longs for the time of his youth and how people responded to certain situations. Watch the short but hilarious clip to hear why comedian Jeff Alen wants to return to an America of a bygone era.

Most people wish they could turn back time. They want to return to a period when things were simpler and life was supposedly less complicated and more straightforward. People will often describe whatever period they long for and have in their mind as “the good old days.”

But people often romanticize the past and remember things better than they actually were. Everyone does this to a certain extent because we all wish to pause or reverse time. No one wants to get older; aging is not much fun. Who wouldn’t want to return to a time when they were much younger? In a clip posted on YouTube, Jeff explains his hilarious reason for wanting to go back to the days of his youth, “before the lawyers took it over and ruined it on us.”

He explains that there was much less supervision and oversight. Children were allowed to get hurt, and people really didn’t take much action. In fact, he describes a situation in which an adult even assisted in a situation that was likely to end with him getting injured.

“We all did dumb things,” he said. “That’s how you learned not to do dumb things. You do dumb things, it hurts, and you learn not to do it.”

Later in the clip, Jeff mentions an instance where he was looking to perform a science experiment of sorts. He wanted to see what would happen when he put dry ice in a jar.

“When I was 12, someone told me get a ball jar, a canning jar,” he said. “Find some dry ice, put it in the jar, put the lid on it. So, I said, ‘What’s going to happen?’ They said, ‘It’s going to blow up.’ And I said, ‘Cool, where do I get dry ice at?’ And they said, ‘The ice cream man.’”

Jeff adds that he found an ice cream man nearby and explained what he was doing to the guy selling the frozen treats, and what was likely to happen. The man selling ice handed over the dry ice without any hesitation.
