Children are much smarter than many people want to admit. Their brains are growing and constantly absorbing information. A good way to describe them is like sponges, soaking up things said and done around them. So, knowing that, it's critically important to start children off on the right foot. Giving them avenues to learn and explore is crucial.

Additionally, whether we know it or not, children are always listening and watching. Even if we don't see them, their little eyes and ears are open, taking in everything they see and hear. Act a certain way, and your child will imitate that motion or activity. Talk in a particular manner or say an unflattering or profane word; you'd better believe your child or grandchild will hear and repeat that language.

The video begins with a 2-year-old in a store who has just stopped because he spotted something that caught his attention. The little guy is intrigued by a large plastic bird. He then begins to talk about what he's looking at, with surprising clarity and confidence.

"They look like, they look like egrets," the child says, pointing toward the plastic birds. "But they're actually, they're actually pelicans."

The camera pans over and reveals that the young man is 100 percent correct. The animals that he named are, in fact, pelicans. The child's knowledge about birds blows the man holding the camera away. He cannot believe what he has just heard.
