Ashley and Wynonna Judd's Heartfelt Discussion on Family Traditions and Memories

Actress Ashley Judd and her sister, singer Wynonna Judd, had a deep, heartfelt discussion on the importance of passing on family traditions and sharing memories.

Sadly, death is a part of life. Everyone will, at one time or another, experience it. Losing someone close to you and going through that dark valley of mourning is and always will be a painful, gut-wrenching situation.

But while that dear friend or beloved family member may have passed on, we can keep their memory alive. Odds are that there were either traditions or particular memories made with the individual that have since become very important. Traditions and memories are something we cling to remember and honor that individual.

In a clip posted on Instagram, the Judd sisters talked about their family and how they have reached the stage in life where they are the keepers of their family’s traditions and memories. Both understand how important it is for those to be passed along to the younger members of their families.

Wynonna specifically mentions her 2-year-old granddaughter, Kaliyah. Kaliyah, Wynonna points out, never knew Naomi, Ashley and Wynonna’s mother.

“She never knew her,” Wynonna said. “So, how are we going to pass along these traditions and memories to her?”

Traditions and memories don’t have to be these big, showy, world-changing events either. Later in the clip, Ashley points out something that many may consider insignificant but is very important to her.

“Like today, when we made our sandwiches, we cut them into quarters because Mamaw cut our toasts, with raspberry jam, into quarters,” she said.

Wynonna responded that she and her late mother would also hold hands before going out on stage every night. She added that her granddaughter is starting to ask questions about her mother, and she wants to be able to tell her about her mother to keep Naomi’s memory alive.

Traditions and memories are essential to every family. They are how we pass along information about loved ones to the younger generations.

2 Thessalonians 2:15 “Therefore, brothers, stand fast, and hold the traditions which you have been taught, whether by word, or our letter.”
