Kelly Clarkson’s Captivating Performance of 'The Promise'

Don’t miss this incredible, captivating performance of ‘The Promise’ by Kelly Clarkson. In a world where love and connection are the most important pieces of a person’s life, the song ‘The Promise’ by When In Rome stands out as a beautiful reminder of enduring love.

The song was first released in 1987 by the British pop band When In Rome. It was released in 1988 in the US when it climbed to number 11 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and it’s the perfect song to showcase how gifted Kelly is when it comes to her incredible voice.

Hundreds of singers have performed this song, but none are as special as Kelly. She starts off singing softly as the first few tender notes are played. Then, with her powerhouse voice, she makes the song her own as she sings:

‘If you need a friend

Don't look to a stranger

You know in the end

I'll always be there’

Her ability to balance the tender words with the song's intensity absolutely draws the audience in as they cheer her on. Each word feels personal, and she transforms the lyrics into promises to a loved one as the words highlight love, loyalty, and promises.

Since performing on her show, the song went viral with over 58,000 views and hundreds of comments from fans. One fan commented, “That was the best cover of When in Rome's "The Promise." Thanks, Ms. Clarkson and My Band Y'all!” Another couldn’t help but comment he’d love to hear anything she sings, he added, “Yesterday, today and always love to hear Kelly sing - it would make me happy just to hear her sing the ABC's.”

What do you think of this performance? Did you love her interpretation of the song as much as we did? We hope it was a bright spot in your day.

Romans 12:9 “Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good.”
