'American Idol' Contestant Wins Judges Over with Classic Country Covers

Watch this charming audition from an ‘American Idol’ contestant who wins the judges over with his classic country covers. But not before showing them some southern hospitality and bringing them some Cajun food in personalized coolers! The young man singing is John Foster, and he is a student from Louisiana. His dream is to be a "singing oncologist" because he has a passion for cancer research. The first song that he performs during his audition to impress the judges is ‘Don’t Rock the Jukebox’ by Alan Jackson.

'Cause my heart ain't ready for the Rolling Stones
I don't feel like rocking since my baby's gone
So don't rock the jukebox, play me a country song’

What a great voice! But before making their decision, the judges wanted to hear more from John Foster.

“Do you perhaps have another song that kind of showcases your vocals a little more?” Carrie Underwood asks him. John decides to play them ‘Goodbye Time’ by Conway Twitty. This gets Luke Bryan so excited that he stands up and sings along to the song!

“There’s such a sweet spot in your voice that that song really brought out,” Carrie says to John after he finishes his rendition of ‘Goodbye Time.’ “If you end up going through to Hollywood, when we ask you to sing different genres – be yourself, for sure – but definitely think about how you’re going to navigate different situations.”

“Carrie’s right. I want to hear more of who you are,” says Lionel Richie. “I love the timber, but you’ve got to carve your way out now and start making your sound.”

The judges eventually all say yes to John, and he is on his way to the Hollywood round of ‘American Idol!’ We can’t wait to see what this country boy will do next.
