Check out this beautiful group of kids of PS22 Chorus as they deliver an incredible cover of ‘As Long As You Love Me,’ by the Backstreet Boys! The group of 60-70 fifth graders will knock your socks off. Not only do they sound fabulous, they are an absolute joy to watch. Their gestures and expressions illustrate the passion they have for music. And, wow, what a wonderful passion to possess!

These super-talented kids attend Public School 22, which is located in Graniteville, Stanton Island in New York. PS22 Chorus was founded by choir director and music teacher Gregg Breinberg, and it has been going strong since he started working at the school in 2000. 

In the video, choir members—most of whom are 10 years old—sing the 1997 hit single, ‘As Long As You Love Me.’ And while the singers were all born about twenty years after the Backstreet Boys came to fame, they are big fans of the group. 

The text beneath the video reads, “My PS22 friends and colleagues are hands down some of the biggest ‪@backstreetboys‬ fans out there! We did this for THEM and as a thank you to Backstreet Boy Kevin Scott Richardson for following the kids and for his consistently awesome feedback on their Instagram videos! As a "class act" themselves, the kids (and Ms. Lisa and I) know one when we see one!!”  

As the video begins, Director Breinberg, dressed in a tie-dyed sweatshirt, smiles and plays the piano. The nameplate atop the piano reads “Chaos Coordinator.” That gives an indication of his sense of humor and fun, and it certainly appears to be present among his students!

The tween musicians use their mouths, eyes, faces, and hands to communicate the words they sing. They point inward and outward, make heart shapes with their hands, write in the air, clap their heads, swirl their crazy fingers, grab their eyeglasses, and dance in their seats. One hilarious group member wears a lobster on their head. What a hoot! 

The creative chaos of this incredible chorus has made them very famous! PS22 Chorus has appeared on the Oscars, Oprah, Nightline, Sesame Street, Good Morning America, and more. The group has sung with Carrie Underwood, Jennifer Hudson, Katy Perry, and others. And, they’ve performed for former President Obama!
