Tim Conway's Gas Station Sketch Is Comedy Gold

Tim Conway in a gas station sketch from The Carol Burnett Show is comedy gold.

The Carol Burnett Show was a program known for its many classic and laugh-out-loud sketches. The show’s hilarious, sharp, witty writing, combined with its iconic cast of comedic actors, make it one program that audiences still turn to for a laugh decades after its run on television ended.

Whenever you have people like Tim Conway, Vicki Lawrence, Harvey Korman and Carol Burnett, you know the laughs will come fast and furious. Who couldn’t put on a hysterical show when you’ve got such an all-star lineup? The sketches were so good and hilarious that even the cast members (Harvey Korman) often couldn’t keep from laughing.

In another classic sketch from The Carol Burnett Show, Tim plays a man who has just pulled up to a gas station with his brand-new vehicle and is about to fill up his tank. It seems easy enough. Unfortunately for Tim, he encounters a rather unhelpful gas station attendant.

The gas station has two distinct areas for customers: full-service and self-service. Knowing that he can save a few pennies a gallon, Tim goes with the self-service side. Instead of immediately putting gas in his tank, Tim feels the need to let the guy on the full-service side know how much he can save by pumping his own gas. This rubs the gas station attendant on duty the wrong way.

From that point forward, it’s an anything that can go wrong does go wrong situation for Tim. The gas station attendant is most unhelpful, even downright hostile toward Tim. Eventually, through a series of hilarious mishaps, Tim ends up with a destroyed vehicle and his pants full of gasoline.

Tim Conway was a comedic genius. He often got an entire studio audience and his castmates to laugh with just a single look. His comedic skills are on full display in this skit, and the results are legendary.

Proverbs 17:22 “A glad heart makes a healthy body, but a crushed spirit makes the bones dry.”

A Prayer to Stay on the Path of Righteousness - Your Daily Prayer - October 5

Staying on the path of righteousness takes work; many distractions and hindrances exist. But, each day, we have a choice: will we choose God and His ways, which are better than ours (Isaiah 55:8-9), or the way of the world that leads to destruction (Matthew 7:13-14)?
