YOU are my portion. What a statement! It flies in the face of today's "Bless Me" generation, who seek the Giver for His gifts and scarcely look Him in the eye for all that He lavishes upon us. --I have considered my ways and I have TURNED my steps TOWARD Your statutes.-- This implies that before this the Psalmist was not adequately focused on the Lord. But NOW things are different. NOW that he has caught a glimpse of the Giver who is so slow to take offense and so quick to forgive... NOW he hastens to obey and to face the consequences and the hatred of those who have not yet received such a vision. --Though the wicked bind me with ropes...-- He has be joined to a company of those who have met the living God --I am a friend to those who fear You...-- And like the cherubim that Isaiah saw crying "Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord. The earth is FILLED with His glory" so this Psalmist sees that God has left no nook and cranny of the earth bereft of His mercy and lovingkindness. And he entreats the Lord to instruct him in THAT way.
