TEXT: Genesis 12:1-3

In Zondervan's commentary on the book of Genesis, Bruce K. Waltke writes, "The gracious God's broad new strokes to bless the earth came suddenly and brilliantly upon the canvass of sacred history. The Lord had not spoken to his saints since his covenant with Noah, in which he resolved to bless the earth and never again to treat it with contempt Now suddenly his creative word to bless the tribes and nations—which he has scattered—redirects the course of history. This word of benediction counterbalances his words of malediction against the tower builders. Reciprocally, Abraham, with astounding suddenness, charges out in obedience and faith."
